Shark Bay Films / Crow Creative

Propel have been supporting the team at Shark Bay Films / Crow Creative from early on in the project.

As award winning documentary film makers, John and Fionn have made films and documentaries for national geographic, discovery channel amongst many others. The team at Shark Bay have over the years filmed some of the most amazing locations and wildlife both above and below the sea.

With the offers of more commercial work growing, a new platform would provide the perfect vehicle with which to separate the film making and commercial areas but to also use all of their experience to blast onto the commercial market with a great new brand, Crow Creative was born.

Propel supported the development and early stage of Crow Creative, ensuring digital visibility and solid platforms were laid for the future, bespoke 121 advice, supporting and developing networking and referrals in the ‘right’ sectors was also key. They took advantage of our grant scheme to bring on board digital specialists to focus on search engine optimisation to give them digital visibility.

Propel Cornwall spoke to John and Fionn at Shark Bay / Crow Creative about how the support had helped.

Has Propel been helpful?

Awesome. That’s because of the personalities that we’ve been dealing with. They’ve been so helpful.

Once we started setting up Crow Creative, we’d never been down this sort of grant funding line before- mentors and that sort of thing. And we’d had some dreadful experiences with business support providers who had really struggled to relate it in any way to our business.

The people who we’ve dealt with from Propel Cornwall and Cornwall Marine Network are absolutely on the nail, know what we’re doing, have given us great advice, introductions, and they have enthusiasm for what we do. It feels like a helpful organisation.

Sam (Propel Innovation Mentor) came with us to meet the guys doing our SEO and he held our hand through it. He translated and made sure everything was going alright. He really simply sat us together with Adrian from Rustler- and said ‘you do this, you do that’… and that’s what we want to do. Really basic, simple, practical stuff. That’s the difference between the networking and the shows. It’s not a chat up or a social, its straightforward business.

We are terrible at networking- the word doesn’t even feature in my vocabulary. We’re both outgoing people, but not in that kind of way. Normally it comes through recommendation. Propel got us Rustler Yachts in the first place- he said ‘they need something, you can produce it’… Sam has helped us to understand the levels of networking and how to ensure all networking is measurable and has a target.
